No Hope

No Hope a poem by Elisa Wiah

I can't compete with my past
And from whom I've grown.
I can only try to change my now
And come into my new own.
I want to make it work;
I had so much hope to give.
But your hope in me had dissipated.
Our stifled dreams could not live.
I'm sad but I'm tired of not being enough.
I'm tired of being rejected,
Tired of having to apologize,
Tired of not being protected.
So maybe it had to end this way
And maybe I'll be forever alone.
But I'd rather know for sure
Than to keep on holding on.
